We serve TOO!
By Tammy
Even though we don’t wear a uniform, military spouses are expected to serve as well. We serve our fellow military spouses in times of need, participate in the Family Readiness groups, and engage the local military community. We are both mom and dad to our children; pick up the slack in our homes while our spouse is away and making sure that ALL of our soldiers have what they need.
May 7th is a very special day! It is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Back in 1984, President Ronald Reagan created this special holiday just for us military spouses in recognition of the sacrifice that we make. We think military spouses should be thanked everyday because for without our “service” the United States Armed Forces wouldn’t be able to do what they do.
President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of the military spouse’s commitment to the readiness and Well-Being of servicemembers, and on May 23, 1984, he signed a proclamation that set aside the Friday before Mother’s Day each year as Military Spouse Day.
So in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day , we are running a very special contest here on the Jane Wayne Gear Blog.
We are giving away a special Military Spouse Prize Pack to one VERY lucky Military Spouse! It includes the H2O Tactical, and a pair of Jane Wayne Flip Flops. This contest will close at 11:59pm Eastern time zone Wednesday, May 6th. The winner will be announced here on the blog via video post on May 7th – Military Spouse Appreciation Day !

I’ve only been a military spouse for a little under 3 years now. I’ve been through 2 PCSs and only 6 weeks into our first deployment. But I wouldnt trade this life for the world. I have met some AWESOME women and have been able to experience things a “normal civilian” life could never have shown me. I didnt know there was a Military Spouse Appreciation Day until this year. So I’m gonna celebrate our day as best I can!!

May 6th will be my 3 year anniversary being married to my sailor and of course he will be gone again this year. I love my husband, and the fact that he is doing something that is so much greater than we are by serving our country. I love my life, the experiences that I’ve had, the people that I’ve met and the pride I feel for serving my country by supporting my husband. And I hope to instill those feelings in our son when he can understand the meaning of pride in family and country. We’ve done two cross country moves, 1 deployment, which I went through while pregnant and we had just moved to a new duty station, but I still would not give up anything, I’m proud to be a military spouse.

I’ve been married to the Marine Corps for 9.5 years. 6 pcs’, 2 deployments and 2 kids later, I still love him and this life. It’s tough but it’s made me tougher.
Being a successful military spouse is an incredibly difficult task, but when you want something bad enough – you will succeed! I’m not a only a military spouse and mother, but also work fulltime outside the home & have an at home business. When my husband leaves, I feel like I’m overdoing it (especially when you through in sports practice, homework, school activities, etc) but I know how important it is to keep things 100% normal at home while my husband’s gone. I like my days busy and I’ve certainly gotten that while being a military spouse. I wouldn’t change it for anything!

I think that being a MilSpouse is one of the most rewarding opportunities in the world – yes, it is an opportunity! It’s an opportunity to go places we probably never would have before, meet people we probably would never have met, and experience things we never would have before. My husband served 6.5 years in the Air Force before separating and being out for 2 years & has now been in the Army for 1 year. Within this year we have experienced our first PCS, and are on our 2nd deployment together (3rd total for him). This Army life is different than what we knew before in so many ways, but especially the fact that we actually PCSd with this one. Moving away from my family, friends and job was scary but exciting. In it, I have met some of the most amazing people!
Being a MilSpouse is certainly not easy, but it will show you what you’re made of. We are truly blessed by the experiences we encounter in this life!

ive been a military spouse for almost 3 years its been an experience it is definatly not easy but its very rewarding at the same time. i love the relationships you make with new friends cause they are unlike any other because you connect so fast because you usually dont have time to let the relationship grow. it seems everytime i get a great friend i talk to about everything either they or i move which is to be expected. and the family u get from the unit is great there is no stronger bond i think thank you for this its great to know we are truley appreciated not alot of people realize its a full time job to be a military spouse.
